Program Overview

SURE Summer School on Urban Ecology is a training program for graduate students. It has been co-organized by the Society for Urban Ecology (SURE) and SURE-China chapter since 2011. The 2022 international Summer School on Urban Ecology is the 8th one in the series, which is co-organized by Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), SURE, SURE-China Chapter, and the University of Melbourne, and hosted by School of Design at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China. It is sponsored by the Graduate School of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Biodiversity is essential for sustainable development. Biodiversity loss threatens UN Sustainable Development Goals, and has significant impacts on ecosystem functions, human health and well-being. The 2022 Summer School will focus on hotpots of urban biodiversity, and the nexus of human activities, human habitats, and urban ecology. The Summer School aims to cover the following topics: urban biodiversity protection, urban biodiversity research methodology, state-of-the-art theories of urban biodiversity, and urban biodiversity conservation practices.

Eligibility: Graduate student at Master or Ph.D level. We will host a total of 40 graduate students from domestic and overseas universities and research institutes. Students whose research interests intersect with urban ecology, landscape architecture, landscape design are encouraged to apply.
