Doctoral Program
Including Design (Major Code: 130500) and Architecture (Major Code: 081300)
Aims at trends and latest development frontiers of the design and architecture discipline, student who receive this degree should be able to systematically grasp the solid and broad basic theoretical knowledge of this subject, have a deep understanding of the progress and the ability to independently engage in scientific research and design innovation, as well as obtain creative research results in theory or practice, be competent in teaching, tutoring, carrying out scientific research, product development or design management in colleges and universities; as well as possess comprehensive qualities of high-end talent in design and architecture.

Professional (International) Master Programs
Including Architecture (M.Arch), Industrial Design Engineering(IIDE) and Landscape Architecture (M.LA)
1. M.Arch Program (Major Code: 085100) cultivates candidates who are competent in the current career and future challenge of architectural design, historical architecture and heritage protection, urban design, design of building technology and other fields. Student in this program will be trained comprehensively. They will be capable of designing and researching in architectural design firms, as well as the work in architectural design management, education, development, consulting and other relevant aspects. We believe students who graduate from this program will have the potential to become an outstanding professional and senior management in Architecture. Main research directions include Architectural Design and Theory; Architectural History and Theory; Urban design and Theory and Architectural Science Technology.

2. IIDE Program (Major Code: 085500) is mainly based on the actual needs of national development, and is oriented to innovative design in the fields of high-end equipment, intelligent manufacturing, and internet digital, cultural and creative industry. It features three research directions: Design and Intelligent Technology, Design and Social Transformation, Design and Lifestyle. Through curriculum construction, teacher construction, talent cultivation resource construction, students will become senior professionals of industrial design engineering with international vision. Main research directions varies from: Intelligent Design; Information and Interaction Design; User Experience Design; Design Strategy and Management; Design Culture and Social Innovations.

3. M.LA Program (Major Code: 086200) aims to achieve harmony between human and nature with a comprehensive application of scientific, technical and artistic approaches, Students who graduate from this program will be inter-disciplinary, creative, and internationalized high-quality talents engage in the professional field of landscape architecture planning, design, construction and management. Main research directions include Landscape Architecture Planning and Design; Landscape Architecture History and Theory; Landscape Plant Resources and Applications; Landscape Planning and Ecological Restoration.

How to Apply
Step 1: Complete the Online Application
Complete and submit an online application at Study@SJTU (http://isc.sjtu.edu.cn/) before the application deadline. If you wish to apply for the scholarship at the same time, please complete the application before the scholarship deadline.
Step 2: Pay the Application Fee
The application fee is RMB 800 (approx. USD 120), non-refundable and non-transferable. Payment must be made in RMB or USD. You can choose online payment or bank transfer in the online application system.
Materials to Prepare
1. Degree certificates, in scanned files
Applicants who have not graduated by the time of application are required to provide an official letter from their current university stating the expected graduation date.
2. Transcripts, in scanned files
Master’s program applicants are required to submit undergraduate transcripts. Doctoral program applicants are required to submit both undergraduate and graduate transcripts.
3. Proof of Language proficiency
4. Scanned copy of passport
5. Passport-size photo
6. Personal statement and study plan.
7. Two letters of academic recommendation
From scholars who are associate professors or above, or senior professionals in a related academic field. Please follow the instructions on the online system for submission of online recommendation letters or upload the recommendation letters with original signatures.
8. Portfolio (maximum size 3MB)
9. If you are applying for Doctoral Program or you are a Polimi Double Degree student, you are required to contact the supervisor beforehand and provide the signed acceptance letter by the supervisor. Please refer to this link for supervisors name list: School of Design Supervisors List | 上海交通大学设计学院 (sjtu.edu.cn) and the attachment for the template of acceptance letter.
Note: If your documents are not in English or Chinese, please have them translated into either English or Chinese by an authorised translation agency. Then upload both the translated and original documents onto the application system.
Tuition and Housing
Scholarships
Basically, for incoming international graduate students, there are two channels for scholarship application: through Shanghai Jiao Tong University or through Chinese Embassies/Consulates in the home country. Applicants may choose only one application channel. Replicated applications through more than one channels is not allowed.
How to Apply:
Starting from 2023, scholarships for doctoral programs will consist of: SJTU Fellowship, CSC/SGS Scholarship, SJTU Scholarship. And scholarships for Master programs will consist of: CSC/SGS Scholarship, SJTU Scholarship, School/College Scholarship. Details of each scholarship will be on the application system.
When applying at http://apply.sjtu.edu.cn/ applicants should choose “apply for scholarship through SJTU” and follow the steps online. Applicants should complete the scholarship application procedures in time according to the requirements of the university. The earlier an applicant completes the application, the sooner he/she receives an offer of admission and scholarships if the review result from the university is positive. Applicants can check the scholarships result through the application system.
Applicants may also apply to the Chinese Embassies/Consulates in the home country for scholarship opportunities. The application schedule varies from country to country (usually from November to April). Please consult the Chinese Embassy/Consulate about its application schedule, eligibility, requirements, procedures, documents, agency number, program category type and so on in advance.
