FourC Challenge 24-hour Charrette Contest
June 10 – 11, 2023
FourC Challenge代表创造（Create）、联结（Connect）、相通（Communicate）、合作（Collaborate）。FourC Challenge 24小时设计挑战赛旨在通过活动倡导学生关注人类社会发展趋势，在实践中创新思路，寻找解决问题的最优设计，同时要有勇气去打破和颠覆，打造具有社会和产业价值的作品，将学科理论和实践相结合，共同服务于可持续、健康、美好的人居环境营造。
The FourC Challenge stands for Create, Connect, Communicate, and Collaborate. It advocates students pay attention to the developmental trends of human society, create innovative ideas in practice, and pursue optimal designs for solving real life problems. At the same time, they must show the courage to disrupt and subvert in order to create work with social and industrial value. By combining theory and practice, they can lay the groundwork for a sustainable, healthy, and beautiful living environment.
2020年比赛首届的主题是ReConnect，意在通过设计重拾人们对疫情后生活的向往，重拾对未来的向往。2021年的主题是ReVive康复·再生，旨在通过设计来改善人与环境之间的关系，实现健康可持续发展。FourC Challenge跨学科、跨地域、跨学校的线上联动创新竞赛模式，吸引了来自全球14个国家的近百所顶级高校500+学生参与，得到70多家专业媒体的宣传报道。可点击链接直达上两届精彩内容回顾：FourC Challenge设计竞赛系列
The inaugural theme of the competition in 2020 was "ReConnect," aiming to evoke peo-ple's yearning for post-pandemic life and the future through design. The theme in 2021 was "ReVive," focusing on improving the relationship between humans and the environ-ment and achieving healthy and sustainable development through design. The FourC Chal-lenge, as an interdisciplinary, cross-regional, and cross-school online collaborative innova-tion competition, attracted participation from nearly 100 top universities and over 500 stu-dents from 14 countries worldwide. 86400秒=1440分钟=24小时，可以是平凡的一天，也可以是充满创意及激情的一天。本设计挑战赛旨在有限时间里激发参赛者的想象力与创造力，在有限的24小时内，凝聚不同国籍及背景的青年，以不同的视角共同探索和解决社会问题，并提出具有创新性、科学性、前瞻性、实践性的设计方案。
86400 seconds, 1440 minutes, or 24 hours can be an ordinary day or a day filled with crea-tivity and passion. This design challenge aims to stimulate participants' imagination and creativity within the limited time frame. In just 24 hours, it brings together young individu-als from different nationalities and backgrounds to explore and solve social problems from different perspectives. The goal is to propose innovative, scientific, forward-thinking, and practical design solutions.
FourC Challenge并不仅仅是一个单纯的比赛，更是一个与世界沟通，加深认知理解的平台。在这相互学习、相互沟通的24小时，我们希望学生们能够通过与世界相遇相知，与各国学子合作交流，通过设计的力量，推动世界更具韧性的复苏。
The FourC Challenge is not just a simple competition but also a platform for communica-tion and deeper understanding with the world. Through 24 hours of mutual learning and communication, we hope that students can meet and get to know the world, collaborate and exchange ideas with students from different countries, and drive a more resilient global recovery through the power of design.

With the accelerated process of global urbanization, cities are facing challenges such as traffic congestion, housing shortages, and declining infrastructure. Simultaneously, chal-lenges like climate change, aging populations, and resource scarcity continue to emerge. The urgent need to construct inclusive, safe, and sustainable communities is evident. We call for global universities to come together and contribute to sustainable future habitats using the power of design combined with new technologies.
2023年6月10日至11日，第三届FourC Challenge 24小时设计挑战赛将如期举行，主题为“ReNewal”。本次竞赛上海交通大学将与联合国工业发展组织（United Nations Industrial Development Organization，简称UNIDO，是联合国系统内负责促进可持续和包容性工业发展的专门机构）合作，聚焦设计创新的技术转化和市场应用，以资本解读案例的方式提高对创新设计的关注度。本次竞赛的主题“ReNewal”，旨在通过设计将科技转化为节约资源、营造可持续社区空间和促进社区健康运转的有效工具，以打破技术鸿沟和学科壁垒，推动人们福祉的普惠化进程。本届竞赛将更重视有效性及落地性，优秀成果将被推荐予著名企业，有机会继续深化并落地转化。
As scheduled, the 3rd FourC Challenge 24-hour Design Competition will take place from June 10th to 11th, 2023, with the theme "ReNewal." Shanghai Jiao Tong University, in col-laboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), aims to focus on the technological transformation and market application of innovative design. By using capital interpretation cases, we seek to enhance attention to innovative design. The competition theme "ReNewal" aims to utilize design as an effective tool for transforming technology into resource-saving measures, creating sustainable community spaces, and promoting the smooth operation of communities. We aim to bridge the technology gap and disciplinary barriers and promote the inclusive process of people's well-being. This year's competition will place greater emphasis on effectiveness and practicality, and out-standing achievements will be recommended to renowned companies for potential further development and implementation.
本次比赛将完全在线进行，届时邀请交大国际合作伙伴学校参加。参赛者将随机分组，促进不同国籍和背景学生的交流和创新。比赛采用Make-a-thon形式，24小时在线创作，使用成果视频和在线评审。来自全球优秀设计院校的代表导师将会全程指导比赛过程，同时还将邀请专家就比赛主题进行演讲，为学生们提供创新知识输入和思维启发。
The competition will be conducted entirely online, and international partner schools of Shanghai Jiao Tong University are invited to participate. Participants will be randomly as-signed to teams to facilitate exchanges and innovation among students of different nation-alities and backgrounds. The competition will follow a Make-a-thon format, allowing partic-ipants to create online for 24 hours, with the submission of outcome videos and online evaluations. Representatives and mentors from outstanding design institutes worldwide will provide guidance throughout the competition. Additionally, experts will be invited to deliv-er speeches on the competition theme, providing innovative knowledge input and inspiring thinking for the students.
获奖作品有丰厚奖金，并将在第九届中国（上海）国际技术进出口交易会（简称“上交会”）上进行展览，在上交会UNIDO DAY（拟于6月16日举办）进行线下颁奖典礼。来自UNIDO、商务部、上海市政府、上海交通大学的领导将出席颁奖典礼并致辞，来自业界和学界的大咖将进行主题演讲，并进行高峰论坛。我们将邀请获奖选手来线下参与这一盛会。
Winning entries will receive substantial cash prizes and will be exhibited at the 9th China (Shanghai) International Technology Fair (referred to as "CSITF" or “Shanghai EXPO”). The awards ceremony will be held during the UNIDO DAY at the Fair on June 16th. Dignitaries from UNIDO, the Ministry of Commerce, the Shanghai Municipal Government, and Shang-hai Jiao Tong University will attend the ceremony and deliver speeches. Eminent figures from the industry and academia will also deliver keynote speeches and participate in high-level forums. We will invite the award-winning participants to attend this grand event of-fline.

竞赛将完全在线上展开，采用TEAMS软件，鼓励跨学科团队参与，主办方将邀请海内外知名高校参赛，并将参赛者混合编组，推动不同国籍及背景学生之间的思想碰撞和创新领域的探索与交流，以达到更好的交流连接目的。分组结果在竞赛当天公布。
The challenge will be held entirely online on Microsoft TEAMS. Students will join in interdisciplinary teams. To achieve better communication and connectivity among students from different nationalities and social backgrounds, participants will be divided into mixed groups based on different majors and schools. This is also the key point of the contest—to create, connect, communicate and collaborate. The grouping results will be announced on the day of the contest.
竞赛将以Make-a-thon的方式举行，各参赛小组将在24小时内围绕主题开展线上直播创作设计。
The challenge will be in form of online Make-a-thon. The participating groups will produce creative design online within 24 hours.
参赛所需设备（计算机及程序软件等）及Prototype制作物料由参赛者自备。
Required equipment for the contest (computers, programs and software, etc) as well as prototype production materials will be provided by the participants themselves.
采用成果演示视频展示和线上评审的方式，由竞赛评委根据作品的创新及创意性、作品的完整性、技术合理性和作品应用前景等因素综合评审。
Participants will present their work in demonstrations via video display, and the judging panel will review all works based on factors such as creativity, completeness，and technical and commercial potential.
参赛队伍最终提交3分钟演示视频（视频格式为MP4、AVI、MOV等），对设计理念解说及作品成果进行展现。另需提交作品简介电子稿件（稿件格式将于竞赛当日发布），内容包括但不仅限于作品名称、主要作品设计图以及150字以内的作品描述。
Each team will submit a 3-minute demo video (in MP4, AVI, MOV or other format) under 100M to explain the design concept at the end of the contest. Another 2 design layouts (format to be provided at the day of the contest) are also required. The content should include, but will not be limited to; the project name, design sketch, and a description of the work not exceeding 150 words.
来自全球优秀设计院校的代表导师将会全程指导赛程，我们还将邀请专家与业界大咖针对竞赛主题演讲，为学生们提供创新知识输入。这对于学生和参与人员来说都是一个可以更深入了解设计教育的多样性的机会，同时也是往年竞赛过程中最令人期待的部分之一，与我们对FourC的愿景精准呼应。
We will have experienced teachers guiding the whole contest through to ensure participants receive informed input and suggestions. The mentors will work in 2-hours shifts. This provides a great opportunity for both students and participating teachers to learn more about the variety of design education. This was also the most exciting part of previous contest, which, again, resonating precisely with our vision of the FourCs.
评委团由跨界人士组成，包括国际知名高校专家、业界专家等。
The judging panel is composed of cross-border experts, including eminent academics, professionals and industry leaders.
优胜作品将获得丰厚奖励及证书，在官方网站、社交网络和合作媒体上发表。所有竞赛作品均有机会获得来自国内外优秀业界代表导师辅导及在相应的平台进行IP孵化及推广。
The judging panel will undertake a comprehensive assessment of the finalists based on the demo videos of submitted works. Winners will be awarded prizes and will have opportunities for product incubation.
