Program Overview
SURE Summer School on Urban Ecology is a training program for graduate students. It has been co-organized by the Society for Urban Ecology (SURE) and SURE-China chapter since 2011. The 2023 international Summer School on Urban Ecology is the 9th one in the series, which is co-organized by Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), SURE, SURE-China Chapter, and the University of Melbourne, and hosted by School of Design at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China. It is sponsored by the Graduate School of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
Currently, more than 56% of world population live in urban areas. The associations between urban ecological and environmental exposures and human health has become a hotspot in urban ecology and public health. The 2023 Summer School will focus on hotspot of urban ecological and environmental exposures, such as urban heat island, air pollution, water and soil pollution, and their health impacts on the public.

The summer school aims to introduce the state-of-the-art theories, methods and technologies of urban eco-environmental exposures and their health effects, to enhance the theoretical and practical skills of postgraduate students, and to improve their scientific research capacities.
About Faculty
We intend to invite distinguished scientists in environment and public health field. The potential tutors are listed, but not limited to the following professors, such as, Prof. Nieuwenhuijsen (Australian Catholic University, Australian); Prof. Michael Emch (The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, U.S.); Prof. Yuming Guo (Monash University, Australia); Dr. Amy K. Hahs (University of Melbourne, Australia); Dr. Suannae Movoa (The University of Melbourne, Australia); Prof. Yongguan Zhu (University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, China); Prof. Haidong Kan (Fudan University); Prof. Tiantian Li (Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention); Prof. Junxiang Li (School of Design, Shanghai Jiao Tong University).

For overseas students, please complete and submit an online application at Study@SJTU (http://apply.sjtu.edu.cn), or send application materials to bixiaoxing@sjtu.edu.cn, including a copy of ID card or passport, student ID card, English proficiency certificate (not necessary for students whose native language is English), CV, and motivation.
Eligibility:
We can receive totally 60 Master and PhD students from domestic and international universities or institutes. The participant whose research interest in urban ecology, landscape architecture, landscape design, epidemiology and medical statistics are encouraged.
Scholarship
The 9th SURE Summer School does not charge any fees for students. All students participate should pay for accommodations by themselves. School of Design of Shanghai Jiao Tong University reserves the right of final interpretation to the 9th international Summer School.
