School of Design Students Performed Outstandingly at 2022 China-US Young Maker Competition

The finals of the 2022 China-US Youth Maker Competition Shanghai Division completed successfully on July 16. Shanghai Jiao Tong School of Design students achieved stunning results, leading projects awarded with two second prizes and two third prizes. Another two participating projects were selected to represent universities to participate in the global finals.

The China-US Young Maker Competition is hosted by the Ministry of Education. The theme of this year's competition is “Creating the Future Together”, advocating young makers to start from the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind, focus on the common challenges and opportunities of “climate change and sustainable development”, combine future thinking and design innovation, empower creativity with technology, and create green, inclusive and sustainable works.

Second Prize

Project: Forest-Compensatory Speech Correction and Assessment APP for Children with Cleft Lip and Palate after Operation

Supervisor: Professor HAN Ting

In order to meet the needs of 6-11-year-old children with cleft lip and palate to receive professional Chinese speech training after surgery, this project is a compensatory speech correction and assessment APP for children with cleft lip and palate after surgery based on family scenarios and professional speech therapists.


Project: Moses - Intelligent emotional vehicle service system

Supervisor: Professor HU Jie, Associated Professor DONG Zhanxun

Moses intelligent emotional vehicle service system is a multi-sensory and multi-modal vehicle interaction service system based on deep learning. It integrates emotion analysis and monitoring, personalized content and interaction. It goes deep into the vehicle scene and explores the user needs and function points in different scenarios such as office, entertainment and daily life.

Project Name: X model - intelligent control system based on indoor environment prediction and optimization system

X model is an intelligent control system with indoor environment prediction and optimization installed on the application. The system takes the user's demand mode in the building environment as the optimization parameter, obtains the optimal control solution of the indoor environment through system simulation, and uses the application as the medium to realize the integrated control of the intelligent space, so as to achieve energy saving in the building operation and help build a green life habit for users.


Project: Yuyue: Gamification pain-management product design for prostate cancer patients

Team members: WU Tong, LIU Yuyan, SHI Shuyuan, ZHOU Shiyi, ZHU Hanjing

Supervisor: Professor HAN Ting

Yuyue is a digital therapy that uses a gamified approach to help prostate cancer patients combat bone metastasis pain during endocrine therapy. Yule combines CBT therapy, music therapy and mindfulness therapy to help patients relieve cancer pain, reduce dependence on painkillers, and improve physical function and emotional state from cognitive, behavioral, sensory and emotional dimensions.
