AIA Delegations Visited Shanghai Jiao Tong School of Design
On the afternoon of January 10th, 2022, ZHU Kai, President of the Shanghai | Beijing Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), XIE Qide, the Vice President, and ZHANG Tianle, the Student Program leader visited Shanghai Jiao Tong School of Design. Dean RUAN Xing, YOU Lie, Deputy Director of the Department of Architecture, SUN Haode, Assistant Professor, and relevant personnel from the Office of External Relations attended the event.
RUAN Xing first introduced the glorious history of SJTU. Adhering to the state-initiated strategic transformation from “Made in China” to “Designed in China”, and the municipality’s ambitious plan to turn Shanghai into a “Capital of Design” and a “Centre for Science and Technological Innovation” School of Design at Shanghai Jiao Tong has a group of accomplished scholars and industry designers; has carried out extensive academic research and practice with top institutions and NGOs at home and abroad. He expressed that he hoped to take this connection as an opportunity to give full play to the interdisciplinary advantages of the School and the academic resources to carry out in-depth cooperation in combination with the industry resources from AIA.
ZHU Kai mentioned that AIA is a platform for architects and a community to exchange and share knowledge and information related to the architecture fields. ZHNAG Tianle introduced the student program that the association plans to launch this year.
Both side agreed that this is a good beginning of link-up. With all the movers and shakers in different fields and abundant academic and scientific resource, Shanghai is embedded with the internationalism and infinite potential of growth. The two sides will actively integrate these resources and explore new modes of interaction between universities and NGOs.
