On December 19, the Design School held a salon in room 208. This activity was moderated by Professor Li Yuhong, with a lecture by the landscape architecture department’s professor Yao Lei on the subject of “How to Select Aromatic Plants to Accompany Gardens for Healing Purposes.” Party Secretary Fang Xi, Dean Ruan Xing, and other department heads and faculty members of the school were in attendance for the talk.
First Professor Li Yuhong expressed her excitement for the subject of the upcoming lecture, and invited the members of the audience to introduce themselves.
Professor Yao Lei brought to the lecture aromas of essential oils, and elaborated on the distinction between a plant’s aroma and the aroma of essential oils. She talked about her experience with the odor from essential oils in a healing garden that she has been constructing. She also detailed what plants in aromatic gardens are good for lowering high blood pressure, good for lessening anxiety, for lessening congesting, and for anti-aging. She helped the audience learn what sort of plants have useful aesthetic, tasteful, aromatic, and felt properties. In particular, she talked about plants that have particular effectiveness, and which can be used to improve daily living.
The spectacular lecture elicited comments from many students and teachers. People discussed and asked about how to distinguish the different uses of various plants, and about the distinction between natural aromas from plants and aromas created by combining aromatic oils. The event came to a conclusion just as it reached its climax, at a moment of all-around excitement and interest.
