The Design School Recognizes Its Top International Masters and Doctoral Students with the Launch of an Annual Award Program

To encourage positive models and progress, the design school has established a monetary prize for its top masters and doctoral students from abroad. On March 28, the first annual award ceremony for foreign graduate students was held in room 100 at the Yifu Building for Science and Technology. Dean Ruan Xing, Vice Dean Han Ting, Director of Student Affairs Wu Chao, Director of English Programs Chang Danni, Peng Shulian, Ke Chenjuan, International Affairs Office Du Shuai, Huang Ju, and other foreign student representatives attended the awards ceremony. The ceremony was moderated by third year doctoral student Peter Zelchenko.

Opening the event, Ke Chenjuan introduced how the initiative was organized: From March 11th to 17th, announcements were sent out by email, and broadcasted on the school’s website and WeChat social media platform. Afterwards, many graduate students eagerly inquired about the award and applied. After the first preliminary selection was made through discussion and review by a small committee, nine outstanding students were chosen. Among these, awards were given for “academic star,” “inspirational doctoral students,” “excellence in graduate studies,” and “international student star of the year.”

Ruan Xing, Han Ting, Wu Chao, and Chang Danni handed out the awards. Recipient of the “academic star of the year” award Sergei expressed his honor in being able to join the family of the design school, and expressed that he will continual to be thankful for his progress, and that he will do his best to make the school proud.   

Dean Ruan made a speech expressing his enthusiastic congratulation for the award recipients. He also expressed that the school presently is in a period of growth, and hoped that in this climate in which different academic resources are coming together that students can seize the opportunity to flourish and develop their intellects. He described the elaborate added support planned in the future for the international program, as well as the plan for renovating the design school’s building.  

It was announced that the design school's awards for outstanding foreign graduate students will happen once a year. It is intended that this will help promote the academic growth and overall development of the school's foreign students, and help cultivate a cohort of top level talent.
