Building Technology Team of School of Design

Participates in the ISHVAC 2019

The 11th International Conference on Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (ISHVAC) was held in Harbin, China from July 12 to 15, 2019. The conference was hosted by the Harbin Institute of Technology and co-organized by Tsinghua University. Being recognized as one of the most influential international academic exchange conferences and platforms in the field, around 600 HVAC experts and scholars from more than 20 countries and regions including China, the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, Denmark, and Sweden were invited. Professor Lian Zhiwei, Associate Researcher Lan Li, Associate Professor Zhang Huibo, Assistant Professor Lai Dajun, Ph.D. student Shen Jingyun, and masters students Shi Chengnan, Luo Yiwen, Xia Lulu, Cao Ting, and Wu Jialin from the School of Design participated in the conference.

Professor Lian served as chairman of the “Thermal Comfort for Elders under Sleep Conditions” academic workshop. He also participated in the “Adaptive Comfort in the Hot-Humid Climate Zone” Workshop as a “Human Thermal Comfort in Hot-Humid Sleeping Environment” expert. Professor Lan and Associate Professor Zhang’s academic thesis “The Effects of Light Correlated Color Temperature and Illuminance Level on Mood States in Offices” and “An Experimental Investigation of Moisture Buffering Value for Composite Hygroscopic Materials under Different Airflow Conditions” was reported in each division of the conference. Associate Prof. Lai hosted the “Ventilation and Thermal Environment” workshop, and shared his research results on “Strategies for Mitigating Outdoor Thermal Environments,” and presented a poster exhibiting the “Impact of Thermal Radiation on Outdoor Human Thermal Sensation under Different Temperature Ranges” and “Influences of Different Meteorological Parameters on Outdoor Thermal Comfort in Cold Climate Regions in China.” With a total of 11 academic reports, papers, and posters presented, the high-quality research results and wonderful presentations by the School of Design received high praise from participants and recognition for SJTU at an international level.

The ISHVAC 2019 provided a communications platform for scholars from various countries to share their wisdom and experience in the fields of indoor and outdoor building environment research. Their latest theory and technological developments were disseminated, and shared between peers at home and abroad. By attending this international conference, professors and students from the School of Design reported on the latest progress in their research. This built their stage presence, and demonstrated the attitude and creativeness of a SJTU’er. During the conference, teachers and students actively discussed different scientific issues, broadened their research ideas, and accumulated valuable experience for subsequent academic research. It was a valuable and meaningful academic experience for all.
