University of Technology Sydney Visit the School of Design

On May 20th, Professor Stuart White, Director of the Institute for Sustainable Futures at the University of Technology Sydney, visited the School of Design.

Firstly, Dean Xing Ruan introduced the School of Design, and Prof. White gave a lecture on "Creating Change for a Sustainable Future: The Role of Interdisciplinary Applied Research", in which he argued that building a sustainable future requires creating change based on interdisciplinarity. He elaborated on the main methods and tools of change, including systemic thinking, consideration of demand, defining functional units, emphasizing contingency, resilience and adaptability, and non-linear policy processes, with reference to the cases of energy, water and transportation. After the lecture, Prof. White held a Q&A session with faculty and students.

The Institute for Sustainable Futures is an independent research institute within the University of Technology Sydney.
