Born inShanghai, Hansong Li entered School of Architecture, Tsinghua University with exemptionof entry exams. Later he went to London for postgraduate study at the Bartlett UCL,being the first mainland Chinese student of Sir Peter Cook, renowned architectand educator. He then worked in London for long period as an associate at PCKOArchitects . He was amongst very few mainland Chinese to be elected as a charted member of RIBA in that earlyyears. As a keydesigner of PCKO, he led numbers of projects in the UK and won many awardsincluding LEAF Award for eScape Housing Project. Some of the projects were shownon major medias as Sunday Thames and BBC. He pioneered in the fields ofsustainable design and MMC with several prefab housing projects built inLondon. He led PCKO to China and established PCKO Architects (Shanghai), beforefounding Li Associates Architects.

Apart from design work, he is active in architecturalculture, publishing, and education. He translated Informal, the groundbreaking book of architectural theory by famous structural master, CecilBalmond, into Chinese and wrote a preface. He was appointed assistant professorby Department of Architecture, Pukyong University, Korea. He was invited to bethe external examiner for the design studio of South-East University, as wellan international exchanging programme of Tongji University. He is the councilmember of World Association of Chinese Architects.
