​Huaqing Huang is a tenure-track associate professor, doctoral supervisor at the School of Design, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He obtained his B.A. and Ph.D. degrees in architecture both from Tsinghua University. He was a visiting scholar in University of California, Berkeley (2016) and Politecnico di Milano (2010), and a Pritzker-fellowship intern at Renzo Piano Building Workshop, Paris (2012). He used to work as associate researcher in Nanjing University (2017-2021). He also serves as executive board member at International Forum on Urbanism (IFoU), and scientific board member at Committee on Vernacular Houses of Architectural Society of China.

His research is mainly focused on global history of settlements and housing, architectural anthropology, rural revitalization, heritage preservation and regeneration. He has conducted field investigations in over 200 traditional settlements in nearly 40 countries worldwide, leading to the publication of 7 books on global architecture, over 30 articles in peer-reviewed journals including SSCI/CSSCI indexed ones, and over 10 international conference papers in cross-disciplinary fields. He also serves as the co-editor of the book series Architectural Anthropology: the Cross-Cultural Perspective published by the Tsinghua University Press, and the co-convenor of the annual conference Symposium on Architectural Anthropology since 2018. He is also a practicing architect, mainly focused on preservation and regeneration projects in urban/rural traditional built environments. His projects have won multiple inter/national design awards including ARCASIA Awards for Architecture, World Architecture Festival Awards, etc.

He teaches courses in architectural design and theory in both undergraduate and graduate levels. He also serves as a supervisor for Ph.D. and Master students with related interest fields, in both Chinese and English.
