  2. Type public welfare project
  3. Size 50 m2
  4. Year 2018
  5. Introduction to the project  This is a children’s rural public welfare academy located in Xia Mutang Village of Wan’an County, Jiangxi Province, which aims to solve the problem of providing books and reading opportunities for children left behind in rural areas with low-tech, low-cost buildings. It faced many challenges: the project funds were  limited, the duration was tight, amounting to little more than 20 days. In addition, rural construction conditions were difficult, with limitations in the construction technology possessed by local residents. This site is close to an old hall, but also is the only way for villagers to go up the mountain. It was necessary to maintain the ability to pass through the site, hence the construction program needed to allow for a future flow of people through the passage. Secondly, between the site and the field was a large bamboo forest. The wind passing through it, through the mottled bamboo, could vaguely also be seen in distant rice fields. These feelings gave us the inspiration of a large bamboo forest, with both limited space but also possessing the  ability to transverse the field.

  2. Type commercial project
  3. Size 35 square meters
  4. Year 2017
  5. Introduction to the project  One feature of this project is that it achieves a high level effect in a small space. This is both a challenge and an opportunity for design, so we put forward the concept of a “vertical garden.” The complexity of the space and path of Jiangnan gardens was thus increased from two to three dimensions. In the process, this complex and changeable small space became the key advantage of the project.

 5.6. Pet Home

  1. Address Shanghai
  2. Type commercial project
  3. Size 48 m2

  5. Introduction to the project  In this high-density mixed environment favored by people, the relationship between human and pet was the focus of the overall design.  First of all, the overall function of the project was partitioned into “re-grooming.” The human space and pet space “bite” each other, forming two spatial systems of yin and yang. The living room, the second bedroom and the master bedroom form the living space, the corridor plus the two huts in the yard form the pet space, the two spaces thus bite each other and penetrate one another.

  1. Address No. 7 Xinhua Road, Shanghai
  2. Type Renovation of historic buildings
  3. Size 14 square kilometers
  4. Year 2014
  5. Introduction to the project  Shanghai’s bustling Xinhua Road lot has a diverse set of tall buildings and 70-year-old houses. The site is called “respect for the elderly.” This concept adheres to the tradition of respect for the old, and love for the old. This is reflected in a simple folk practice and conventional rule: the elderly live in the brighter south, the younger generation live in the darker north. This project transformed number 7, a house belonging to the elderly. This house is a three-story brick-and-wood mixed structure, with each floor divided into north and south sides of a corridor room. This provided a face-to-face setup for a family, the south side for the living room, the north side for the kitchen and bathroom. The connects not only families but households too, its use function is not only a public walkway, but also an integral part of each resident’s home. The renovation encompassed the three-story public walkway  closely connected to the family, as well as the forgotten rooftop roof.

  5. Introduction to the project  Through the combination of a dot-line surface, we have carried out the transformation of many old buildings in the area of Jiangchuan Road in Shanghai, so as to improve the living environment of the elderly in the  Jiangchuan Road community. The entire system includes: (1)Su Shanghai Red Park Community Vitality: The original site was a community center and teahouse. It lacked cultural space and indoor activity spaces for the public. The project’s new art museum is based on the Jiangchuan Road post-industrial culture. It also involves the restoration of community public welfare, adhering to an “industrial legacy” brand. The museum is a community-sharing activity generator that brings together multiple needs in addition to exhibitions and cultural functions, as well as live music spaces, integrated theatres, community libraries and small shops to convenience people. We also based the work on the concept of the “four King Kong” types of equipment and the color combinations of famed artist Liu Haisu’s “Ten on the Yellow Mountains,”  forming a unique industrial aesthetic and architectural language. (2)502 Community Canteen: Located at 502 Jiangchuan Road, the canteen has a small library area built in and a platform designed as an open-air booth. Community film screenings, community speeches, community choral rehearsals and other group activities are available there. (3)Elderly street transformation: Through field research on the behavioral trajectory of the daily travels of the elderly, a slow-moving system was set up in key areas within the community, including a full-field handrail system, and a full-field ground guidance system. This was done to make the entire travel experience suitable for an aging population, to meet their daily out-of-town auxiliary needs, and to protect the elderly from routine accidental injuries. It was supplemented by landscape design, and the building of a square garden that allows the elderly to relax.
